Why You Should Travel More
Traveling is a hobby shared by millions of people
around the world. But does society spend too much time wrapped up in their day-to-day
schedules and stresses to take the time necessary to travel and unwind and
experience new things? The answer is yes.
Traveling carries numerous benefits, both internal and
external. It has been proven to improve people’s mental and physical health
along with their understanding of other cultures.
Not only does traveling cut down on stress and allow
people to rid themselves of built-up tension, it is also a major improvement
from sitting in a desk all day. It gives you the opportunity to walk around and
get your blood pumping. Physical activity is super important for a person’s
mental and physical well-being, and what better way to accomplish it than walking
around and taking in beautiful sights.
It's surprising how blind we can become to other people’s
cultures when trapped in the cycle of our daily routines. It is so important to
get out of this cycle and experience some of the countless things there are to
experience in this world. The world is a much better place when we are able to
better understand those around us.
Traveling will equip you with numerous stories to
relay to your friends and family, making you the life of the party. You will
become an inspiration to the people you’re closest to and everyone will want to
follow in your footsteps.
What’s most interesting to think about is that for
most of the time that we’ve been a species, we’ve been nomadic, according to Christopher
Ryan in Civilized to Death. We aren’t meant to sit in one place.
However, we’ve become an almost entirely sedentary species.
Throughout the past 20 years, society has become more
attached to technology than ever imagined. It consumes a vast majority of our
daily lives. We spend hours on end sitting and staring at a screen. This is
absolutely detrimental to our well-being. We are missing out on countless
experiences. Moreover, experiencing things through a screen in no way compares
to experiencing the real thing.
It is so important that we expand our worlds and stop
falling into the never-ending cycle that technology draws us to. We need to
take the first step and work to get out of that hole we’ve all been digging.
Once we start to do this, we will start to notice the numerous positive changes
in our overall health.
“Ok,” you say, “so how can I take that first step?” To
that I say, plan a trip. Plan a trip to anywhere. This could be a major vacation
to a place that you’ve always wanted to go; it could also be a quick venture to
another nearby city.
Simply make the decision
to get up and go. Disconnect from your routine and go experience something new.
I promise that the decision to take back your life and start living in the
moment is not one you will regret.
