The Journalist That Inspires Me Most

Rachel Cavanaugh is a journalist that really inspires me because she focuses on writing stories that make her readers think critically and compel them to engage with their environment and view complex issues in a new light. This is something that not many writers do.  Many journalists write simply to get the story across, but Cavanaugh goes beyond that. She is also particularly interesting to me because she is not only a journalist, but a photographer and digital producer as well. Photography is a big passion of mine, and my dream would be to find a job where I could incorporate my own pictures into my writing. I really like how she takes her own traveling experiences and turns them into advice for her readers. For example, her article “10 Unforgettable Moments You’ll Have on a Trip to Costa Rica” gives useful suggestions of places for tourists to go whilst visiting Costa Rica for the first time. When it comes to things I dislike about Cavanaugh’s writing, there isn’t much to list. However, she has written some articles about TV and pop culture, for example “What Will ‘The Walking Dead’ Do With Its Women in Season 9?” That area of journalism doesn’t particularly interest me. I am much more interested in reading/writing about travel and experiences. I found Cavanaugh very recently, so she hasn’t had a major impact on my life yet. However, her work does inspire me to do something similar someday.
